About Miramar · Bahías Norte

Miramar sits on the Buenos Aires Atlantic coast roughly 50 kilometres south of Mar del Plata — close enough to use Mdp as a reference point, far enough that the crowds stay behind. The northern bays, Bahías Norte, are the riding area: a stretch of coast that picks up clean waves from a southern swell and catches the northeast and southeast winds rolling in off the open Atlantic. The usable kite window here runs from north-northeast through to just past due south (15° to 185°). Both of the dominant wind directions — NE and SE, typically running 15–22 knots — sit squarely inside that window. On an NE day the wind pushes you across the bays; on SE it runs more parallel to the coast. Either way, you have open water in front of you and the wind working in your favour. A pier north of the town centre is the defining landmark. It breaks the southern swell into cleaner sections on its upwind side — useful for wave riding, and a reminder to track your downwind position through the session. The beach here is noticeably more open than the busier Mar del Plata break: room to rig, room to launch, and far fewer people sharing the water. That extra space matters when conditions build. This is not a structured beginner setup. There is no visible kite school infrastructure, no flagged launch zone. Intermediate to advanced riders comfortable reading a beach, managing position relative to the pier, and self-rescuing if needed will get the most out of it. Beginners should come with an experienced guide or find a more supervised location first. Miramar is connected to Mar del Plata and the rest of Buenos Aires province via the coastal highway. The northern bays are accessible from the coastal road north of the town centre. Plan to scout on arrival — check the pier position, note where the beach narrows, and scan for swimmers before you launch. After the session, the town has solid options nearby. For coffee or a drink, Havanna, Brujas, El Candil, and Dalí cover the café and bar side. For food, George Rabbit, La Alameda, Cantina Don Romano, Amaretto, and Crocanpizza are all in the area. J&R is the local shop if you need any last-minute supplies. The quiet is the point. Less tourist traffic, more breathing room on the beach, and a pier that gives the swell some structure. For an experienced rider who wants a productive Atlantic session without navigating the crowd pressure of bigger spots, Bahías Norte is a legitimate find.
