About Paracuru

Paracuru sits on Brazil's Ceará coast roughly 90 km west of Fortaleza, on a shoreline that faces NNW. That orientation puts the consistent easterly trade wind at a clean side-onshore angle from the right — one of those setups that earns a spot a long-term reputation among kiters who have found it and keep coming back. Getting there from Fortaleza is a coastal drive west. The town is small and unhurried, and access to the beach is uncomplicated once you arrive. The spot's defining feature is the Quebra Mar reef, which changes character significantly depending on where the tide sits — which means your session plan should start with the tide tables, not the wind forecast. At low tide the reef holds back a 220 m flat-water lagoon. It's glassy, sheltered, and wide enough to work freestyle moves without constantly watching your drift. That kind of clean, predictable surface is hard to find, and Paracuru delivers it reliably when conditions line up. At high tide the picture shifts: the lagoon gives way to reef-breaking waves, clean 1–2 m faces that suit riders who want genuine wave riding rather than a wind-chopped approximation of it. A few days here can cover completely different styles off the same launch — flat-water freestyle in the morning, wave riding in the afternoon, depending entirely on the tide. The easterly trade wind runs at 18–30 kt from July through January, giving you roughly half the year with consistent, reliable conditions. The usable kite window stretches from 250° to 70°, so most trade-wind directions are in play. The side-onshore angle from the right means water re-launches are manageable and you have room to work upwind without immediately running out of coast. For freestyle the low-tide lagoon looks like a good fit for intermediates building their trick list as well as more experienced riders after something technical and clean. The high-tide reef wave is a different conversation — it produces real waves off a real reef and deserves real respect. Walk the beach at low tide when you can see the reef layout, understand where the deep-water exits are, and get a local read before you commit to a session out there.
