Praia de Jacumã sits about 35 kilometres north of Natal, tucked inside the municipality of Ceará-Mirim where a small freshwater lagoon meets the Atlantic coastline. The combination gives you two distinct riding environments in one spot: glassy lagoon water when the NE trade fills in, and an open beach section for those who prefer a bit of chop and an open-ocean feel. Getting there from Natal is straightforward — head north along the coastal road and follow signs for Ceará-Mirim; the beach is signposted locally. Parking near the waterfront is available, though the access track can get soft in wetter months. Arriving early pays off: the lagoon patch is not enormous, and a crowded morning session is tighter than it looks from the car. The lagoon is the main attraction. Fed by the prevailing NE wind, it stays largely flat even when the sea outside is running chop. The freshwater surface means slightly different buoyancy to what you are used to in saltwater, but nothing that will throw you — just a minor mental recalibration. The shallow, smooth conditions make this one of the more forgiving spots along the RN coast for riders still consolidating their jumps, downwinders, or early wave transitions. Outside the lagoon on the open beach, the riding opens up considerably. The beach arc is wider here, giving you room to work upwind laps or set up a longer downwind run. High tide narrows the dry sand and changes the launch dynamic, so timing your session around the tidal window matters — especially near the lagoon mouth where the beach can compress. Hazards are typical for a Brazilian NE-coast lagoon spot: shallow water near the lagoon edges, occasional fishing lines from local anglers, and beach foot traffic on weekends from day-trippers making the run from Natal. Keep your kite high on the launch and stay aware of the crowd at peak season — August through November tends to bring the most consistent wind and the most riders. Facilities around the spot are solid for a small coastal town. For a post-session drink, Bar do Café, Bar do Murilo, and Bauru da Principal are close to the waterfront. Sit-down meals are available at Dona Santa, Central lanches, Good dog, Favella Burguer, and King's Burg. For something more relaxed in the evening, Morre em Pé and Usina Gastrobar are the local picks. Ceará-Mirim is a working town, not a kite resort, which keeps prices honest and crowds lighter than at more famous spots further up the coast.
