About Praia do Forte

Praia do Forte sits on Bahia's Coconut Coast, about 80 kilometres north of Salvador — a compact beach village where a reef running close to shore creates two distinct kiteboarding environments in a single spot. Getting there from Salvador takes roughly an hour by road. The village is small and walkable; most accommodation sits close to the beach, which keeps daily logistics simple. The launch is from the main beach, with the reef line visible from shore as a clear reference for where the water character changes. Inside that reef, the water is flat to mellow — proper glassy surface that rides easily and suits both freeride and foiling. Outside it, wave sets build to something more substantial, giving experienced riders a very different session on the same day. Most people start inside and work their way out once they've read the conditions from the beach. The wind is East to Southeast trade, side-onshore, running at roughly 15 to 25 knots through the season. The usable kite window is wide — 335° through to 115° — which means you have clean angles and room to work upwind without fighting the shore. The reef kills the chop that open-ocean trades would otherwise carry, so the pressure on the kite translates into clean power rather than a bouncy, unpredictable ride. August through October is when the trades are most consistent. Outside that window conditions are patchier; plan around it if reliability matters. One non-negotiable ground rule: Praia do Forte is an active turtle-conservation zone. Rider areas are marked on the beach and in the water — these are not suggestions. Stay within the designated zones and give any turtles you spot a wide berth. The programme here is serious and respected locally, and the marked areas serve a genuine purpose. After your session, the village supplies what you need. Espeto Baiano and Espetinho are the go-to spots for grilled food — exactly the kind of meal that makes sense after a long water session. Blancos and Casa are solid sit-down options when you want something more substantial. Coffee is well covered: Grão Expresso, Grand Café, Hub Coffee Beer, Café Frugi, and Dolce Café & Atelier are all within easy reach of the beach. Honest take: this is a strong intermediate spot with genuine appeal for advanced riders too. The flat water inside the reef is forgiving and consistent — good for building confidence or pushing freestyle. The reef break outside is a different challenge entirely, one that rewards riders who can read surf. Check the marked turtle zones before you rig and you'll have a smooth session.
