About Pomorie

Pomorie sits on a narrow finger of land jutting into the Gulf of Burgas on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, with the old town at one end and the peninsula's eastern shore pointed directly into the NE and E winds that define this stretch of coastline. The sandy beach on the eastern side is what brings kiters here — exposed to open water and in the path of the prevailing wind. It's an intermediate spot, and the combination of a tight beach, genuine chop, and a busy summer waterfront means you need solid skills before you unpack your kite. Approaching from Burgas, the main coastal road runs straight into town. Head for the eastern shore of the peninsula — that's your beach. Parking is available near the waterfront, though in peak summer arriving early gives you the best chance of a spot close to your gear. The beach narrows significantly during July and August, so always walk your full upwind and downwind line before you rig. Launch is doable but not expansive — a reliable kite assistant and solid body-drag skills matter more here than at a wide-open lagoon. Read the crowd before you set up; summer brings swimmers and sunbathers who aren't expecting kite lines. The usable wind arc runs from north through east to south (0°–180°), with NE and E the sweet spot. These directions arrive with real fetch behind them across the Gulf, bringing typical speeds in the 10–20 knot range. Expect chop and small waves rather than flat water — Pomorie isn't a freestyle glass-off destination, but it suits riders who want to develop on an active surface or take some swings at small wave riding. The water keeps you engaged rather than comfortable. The season runs March through October. Summer delivers reliable wind alongside the tourist crowds; spring and autumn shoulder sessions typically mean emptier beaches and more room to operate, and conditions can be just as consistent — worth planning for if you have the flexibility. Facilities are well-covered along the beachfront and in town. Hotel Diana, REGATA, Sunny Bay, and Козият рог are your restaurant options for a proper post-session meal. Bar-cafes include Macao Beach, Orfey, S'Candalo, Биляна, България, and Зефир — plenty of choice for a cold drink while your gear dries in the afternoon sun. Pomorie isn't a marquee kitesurf stop, but for riders based in Burgas or working their way along the Bulgarian coast, it's a solid and honest session: real wind, real chop, and a town that carries on around you without making kitesurfers the centre of attention.
