Shaab El Kenz sits on the Egyptian Red Sea coast, roughly 50 kilometres north of Marsa Alam International Airport and a short drive from the town of Quseer. The area is about as raw as Egyptian kiting gets — a reef-fringed shoreline opening onto the open Red Sea, with the modest amenities you'd expect from a working coastal stretch rather than a polished resort hub. Getting here is straightforward enough: Marsa Alam is your closest gateway, and from there it's a drive north along the coast. There's no closer international airport, so factor that transfer into your planning. The launch sits on a reef coast, which sets the tone immediately. This isn't a flat-sand beach where you stroll in at shin depth — expect rocky shoreline that demands attention on both launch and land. The upside is that once you're on the water, you're into proper open Red Sea conditions: flat-to-choppy water inshore, with more open exposure further out depending on how far you ride. Wind here comes predominantly from the north to northwest, arriving cross-onshore across that reef coast. With 146 windy days per year recorded above the 12-knot threshold, Shaab El Kenz is consistently breezy by any measure — roughly two days in five have enough breeze to kite. The usable kite window spans 0° to 180°, so northerly and northwesterly conditions put you in good shape. The cross-onshore angle is worth thinking about on your first session. It keeps you working back toward shore rather than drifting into open water, which is the sensible tradeoff, but it also means any gear issues can push you toward the reef rather than clear sand. Read the waterline carefully before you launch and identify your landing zone early. Skill level is firmly intermediate to advanced. It's a functional rather than lavish setup — you won't go hungry or thirsty, but don't arrive expecting a full-service kite centre with rental gear and instructors on the beach. The Red Sea provides the backdrop that draws kiters here: reliable wind, warm water, and a stretch of coast that remains genuinely uncrowded. Shaab El Kenz suits self-sufficient riders who want open water and honest conditions — just come prepared and with your own kit.
