About Sharm El Sheikh – Nabq Bay

Nabq Bay sits at the northern end of Sharm El Sheikh, where the South Sinai coastline curves into the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba. An offshore reef shelters the bay, turning what could be a choppy open-water stretch into a flat, shallow lagoon that works for kiters of most levels. It's one of Egypt's more accessible kite setups — close to infrastructure, consistent on wind, and easy to read on arrival. The beach is a short drive north of Sharm El Sheikh's main resort corridor. Accommodation options in the area include Barcelo, Jaz Mirabel Club, Nubia Sharm, and the Regency Plaza — all close enough to the water to make a morning session genuinely convenient. The kite zone spreads out from the beach into the lagoon, where the standing area runs waist-deep across much of the usable riding space. That depth is a practical asset: water relaunches and self-rescue are more manageable here than at a deep-water beach launch. Wind runs N/NE side-onshore, sweeping a usable arc from 350° through to 170°, and it's consistent: 15 to 25 knots is the typical range and it holds year-round. You can plan a trip in February or August and expect sessions rather than waits. The side-onshore angle delivers steady power and keeps you tracking along the lagoon, but it also means you'll drift downwind — mark your launch point, identify your downwind exit, and keep track of your position through the session. The lagoon divides naturally into two zones. The shallower inner area is calmer and suits beginners working on water starts and basic transitions; the outer freeride zone opens up more space for carves and longer runs. The reef keeps water surface conditions flat throughout — this isn't a spot where chop or swell sneaks in to interrupt a session. Post-session options are within reach. Beach Bar, Pool Bar, Cave Bar, and Fish Market cover the cold-drink end of things; Hard Rock Cafe and Bus Stop are the sit-down restaurant options in the area. The resort density means you're rarely more than a few minutes from food and a shower. Year-round wind, reef-protected flat water, and a natural progression from beginner zone to freeride zone make Nabq Bay one of Egypt's most dependable kite spots.
