Plage du Ricanto — locally nicknamed Tahiti — sits on the southwestern shore of the Gulf of Ajaccio, tucked beneath the mountains that funnel afternoon thermals down toward the Med. The beach faces southwest, which puts the Libeccio squarely onshore and makes this the go-to kite spot for the whole gulf. If you're flying into Ajaccio airport, you'll spot the beach almost immediately on approach — the spot sits right next to the runway, which is both convenient and slightly surreal. The beach itself is sandy with a gently sloping bottom — nothing dramatic underfoot at the launch. Rocky jetties flank the area and provide some shelter from the chop, though they're worth noting as a hazard if you're still learning your downwinders. Kitesurf activity departs exclusively from the main beach here; that's not a restriction, it's just where it works best, with cleaner water and significantly less boat traffic than the areas closer to the Ajaccio marina. Wind-wise, you're playing a thermal game. The thermals switch on reliably between around 13:00 and 17:00, building to Force 4 conditions that are about as predictable as Corsica gets during the thermal season. Before midday things can be light or shifty — use that time to rig up and scout the water. When the wind fills, it fills properly and you'll have a solid window to work with. The water inside the gulf runs flat to small chop, which makes this a decent venue for riders working on their technique. It's pitched at intermediate level — you want to be comfortable in onshore conditions and confident handling the thermal ramp-up. The wind can accelerate as the afternoon progresses, so if you start the session on a bigger kite, keep an eye on the gusts and be ready to depower early rather than getting overpowered. Boat traffic near the harbor is a known hazard — stay toward the Ricanto side and you'll have more room to work. The rocky jetties are the other thing to keep in mind; they're not in the middle of the kite zone but they're there, and in a swim situation you'd rather know where they are upwind. On the facility side, Ricanto is the only place in the entire Ajaccio gulf where you can rent equipment — boards and hobby cats — which tells you something about how established the scene is here. Multiple kite schools operate on or near the beach: Book Kite Surfing now!, Cours Kitesurf & Wing Foil Tahiti & Raiatea, Kite Surf School Polynesie, and L'école all run lessons and rentals. After the session, Tahiti Beach Café and L'aero-club are the obvious spots to decompress. Accommodation options nearby include Hotel Campo Dell'Oro and various rental properties at Plage du Ricanto itself. Getting here is straightforward — the beach is right next to Ajaccio airport and easy to find. The kind of spot where you can fly in, check in, and be on the water the same afternoon if the thermals cooperate.
