Barcarès · Parc des Dosses sits on the Étang de Leucate, the long saltwater lagoon tucked behind the Languedoc coastline on a narrow sandy peninsula. Port Barcarès is the resort town at its tip, and the Parc des Dosses launch is on the lagoon side — fully sheltered from open-sea swell but wide open to the northwesterly that funnels down from the gap between the Pyrenees and the Massif Central. That wind is the Tramontane, and it defines this spot. Dry, powerful, and consistent when it fires, it arrives from the NW-N and can sustain 30–50 knots. The lagoon behind the peninsula stays flat under these conditions — no ocean fetch, no chop — which means when the Tramontane is on you get sheet water and serious air. Freestyle riders love it for that reason. Foilers love it. If you're coming here to push unhooked tricks or chase extended foil runs in clean conditions, Parc des Dosses delivers. Just understand what you're getting into: Tramontane sessions here are pro-level. The wind is powerful and can be sharp on gusts. The SE Marin is the second wind in the rotation, blowing onshore from the Mediterranean. It sits at the lighter end of the spectrum and opens the spot up to intermediate riders who handle onshore conditions comfortably. The usable wind window runs 45°–215°, covering both NW Tramontane and SE Marin without pushing riders into offshore territory. To reach the launch, head into Port Barcarès from the coast road and follow the lagoon side to the Parc des Dosses. Parking is available near the spot. The beach is sandy and wide enough to give you room to rig without crowding, but on a Tramontane day the wind carries fine sand — cover your bar and lines until you're ready to go. Launch directly from the sandy shore into the lagoon. In strong conditions, having a buddy on the beach to assist your launch and catch you on the way in is the sensible play. The Tramontane can be sharp at the water's edge, and the lagoon shallows can catch you out if you drift too far downwind toward the edges. Season runs March through October. Spring and autumn bring the most reliable Tramontane windows; summer is warmer, busier, and more variable in wind character. The local school is Dpc École De Kitesurf, Wingfoil, Efoil, covering kitesurfing, wingfoil, and efoil — a good first contact if you're new to the area and want a conditions briefing or gear hire. They're a few kilometres from the Parc des Dosses launch. For food after a session, La Cabane à Cactus and L'Oriental are both within walking distance. Bar le Graffiti is the nearest bar to the launch for a cold drink. If you want more options, AYO beach and La Brasserie Du Port are further along the waterfront. For overnight stays, Camping Le Sable d'Or and Camping Homair - La Presqu'Île du Barcarès are both close to the launch; Hôtel de la Mer- Le Barcarès covers the hotel end of the spectrum. Parc des Dosses is a genuine destination spot. The combination of flat lagoon water and powerful, consistent Tramontane is rare in Europe, and when both come together at full strength, this is about as good as flat-water freestyle gets on this coastline.
