About Le Touquet

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage sits on the Opal Coast in northern France, where a wide, flat sandy beach faces WNW directly into the Atlantic fetch. The town is a classic French seaside resort, but outside the summer season it quietly becomes one of the more serious kite beaches in the north of France. Getting here is straightforward, and parking is available along the seafront. The beach is wide and sandy, giving you solid space to rig and prepare before launching. When conditions are running properly, the water gets active quickly, so have your kit sorted on the sand before you commit. The usable wind window runs from 200° to 20° — SSW around through west to NNE. Winds from SW to NW arrive onshore and push proper Atlantic swell down the beach. This is wave-riding and bump-and-jump country. The swell can build quickly in the right conditions, and autumn through spring is when Le Touquet delivers most consistently. The Opal Coast sees its best wind during these months, and the beach is largely free of the summer crowds that can make launching genuinely awkward. Currents are the primary hazard here, and they're not subtle — running consistently above 2 knots. The beach won't forgive you if the current takes you sideways. Solid self-rescue skills and confident body-dragging are not optional. Track where the current is pushing you from the moment you launch. The wide sandy beach helps for emergency landings, but that's a last resort, not a plan. When the wind swings to E–NE, the beach goes offshore and the ocean session ends. In those conditions, the Canche estuary nearby becomes the alternative — flatwater kiting with a very different character, but a useful way to rescue a day that would otherwise be a write-off. This is an intermediate-to-advanced spot. The combination of real Atlantic swell, onshore conditions, and strong currents makes it unsuitable for anyone still developing their water-start or body-drag. Wave riding, freeride, and bump-and-jump all happen here, and advanced riders will find the wave potential particularly interesting in autumn when the swell builds on the beach. After a session, Le Touquet has solid options. Au Royal Touquet, Croque's & Pies, and E Ricochet cover restaurant meals. Café des Sports and Café des Artistes handle the bar and coffee end; Elizabeth's is another option for a relaxed stop.
