About Fehmarn / Grüner Brink

Grüner Brink sits on the northeastern tip of Fehmarn, Germany's largest Baltic island, and has built a reputation as the country's top wave-kiting destination. Navigate to Krummensiek, 23769 Fehmarn — that address brings you to the access point. From there, the beach opens onto the open Baltic with an unobstructed fetch stretching toward Scandinavia. The sand is mixed with shells, so take care when laying your kite down and pay attention to where your lines drag. The usable kite window runs from northwest through north, northeast, east, and around to southeast — a wide arc that captures the directions that matter most on this coast. When the wind arrives from the northeast to east and builds across the open water, it drives swells that can reach two metres along a beach perfectly oriented to collect that energy. On those days, Grüner Brink delivers some of the best wave kiting in Germany. Launching must happen in the designated zones. The nature reserve begins immediately to the west, and this boundary is non-negotiable — set up within the correct area and stay there. Getting this right is part of using the spot. Facilities on the beach are basic. A snack bar sits about 100 metres from the water; there are no showers. Bring your own rinse kit if you want to clean off after a session. For accommodation, the island has solid options: Belt-Camping-Fehmarn, Camping Puttgarden, Campingplatz Johannisberg, and Campsite Am Niobe handle the camping side; Bauernhof Weiland - Ferienhof auf Fehmarn offers a farmhouse-stay option. After a session, Beltbude, Dat ole Aalhus - Kathrin Rilke, Borgo Antico Italiano Restaurant, and Chillaz Pizza Bar are all available on the island. Grüner Brink is not a beginner spot. The combination of shells on the beach, an exposed shoreline, and waves that build quickly when the northeast to east wind is running means you want to arrive with solid kite skills and water confidence. Intermediate and advanced riders will find it rewarding — this is the kind of spot you travel for when conditions line up. If you're earlier in your progression, build your wave experience somewhere more forgiving first and return here ready for what it asks of you. When the Baltic decides to deliver, Grüner Brink is the place to be for it.
