About Halikounas Beach

Halikounas sits on the south-west coast of Corfu, a long sandy stretch running north along the edge of the Korission lagoon. The lagoon's proximity and the island's topography funnel a consistent northwest thermal down the beach from spring through early autumn, making this one of the windiest spots on Corfu — and a genuine reason to plan a kite trip here rather than just passing through. The beach is wide, flat, and sandy, which makes rigging and launching straightforward. The northwest thermal tracks side-shore along the strand, keeping your kite over water once you're in the air and giving you a sensible launch angle without fighting the wind at odd angles on the sand. The usable kite window spans 160° through 340°, so you have a broad arc to work with when conditions rotate during the day. Water entry is forgiving. The first few metres are shallow — good for beginners working on body-drags or water starts — and the depth increases steadily as you head offshore. That progressive profile means you're not suddenly out of your depth, but there's also space to ride on the outside if you want flatter water and more room to run downwind. For intermediates building confidence and mileage, the setup is clean and uncomplicated.
