Peloponnese, Greece
Bay at Tolo near Nafplio in the eastern Peloponnese, sheltered by the island of Koronida. The south-facing bay receives the summer south-to-southeast thermal wind from the Argolic Gulf at 10–18 kt in the afternoon. Shallow, warm water; sandy beach. A small kitesurf school operates seasonally. Suitable for beginners in mild conditions; intermediate when wind is strong. Season June–September. Not the strongest spot in Greece but useful for those exploring the Peloponnese.
Eion or Eiones (Ἠιόνες) was a town of ancient Argolis, on the Argolic peninsula, mentioned by Homer in the Catalogue of Ships in the Iliad, along with Troezen and Epidaurus. It is said to have been one of the towns founded by the Dryopes, when they were expelled from their seats in Northern Greece by Heracles. Strabo relates that the Mycenaeans expelled the inhabitants of Eion, and made it their sea-port, but that it had entirely disappeared in his time.
