About Medewi Beach

Medewi Beach sits on Bali's remote west coast near Jembrana, well away from the busier tourist strips around Denpasar and Kuta. The road out here winds through quiet coastal country — this is western Bali at its least developed, and the beach reflects that: long, unhurried, and rarely crowded. The beach faces south-southwest, which puts it squarely in the path of Bali's seasonal SE trades. From May through September those trades blow in at around 15–20 knots on a 135–155° bearing — side-onshore, angled nicely for a clean launch with the wind at your side. The usable kite window runs from 130° through to 290°, so if the breeze clocks slightly toward the south or begins to swing toward the southwest, you still have room to ride. Entry is shallow here, which takes some pressure off if you're not the most confident water-starter. You can walk out a good distance before committing to deeper water, and the shallow profile means conditions close to the beach stay manageable. The long beach gives you plenty of room to set up your lines without crowding anyone, and with the spot being genuinely quiet by Bali standards, you're unlikely to be fighting for space on the sand or in the water. What Medewi suits best is distance runs. Get the kite up, bear away, and you can put in long downwind legs without constantly worrying about other riders or traffic. Intermediates comfortable in side-onshore winds will feel at home here; conditions during the main trade season are forgiving enough to work on technique or push your jumping without the noise and chaos of busier Bali spots. There's no formal kite school or rental operation on site — bring your own gear and your own plan. Before or after your session, Arema Barokah 2 and Sari Asih are both restaurants close to the beach, and Warung Makan Artomoro Tegak Gede is another solid option for a proper post-session meal. Warung Puspa Sari covers the bar-and-cafe side if you want something cold while you pack down. Getting here means hiring a car or motorbike and driving out from Denpasar or the Negara area — Medewi is not on any tourist shuttle route. Come self-sufficient: sort fuel and supplies before you leave the main road. This is not a spot for your first time on a kite. Its remoteness means help is not quickly at hand if something goes wrong. But if you're an independent rider chasing uncrowded water and clean southeast trade wind, Medewi is worth the extra kilometres.
