About Serangan / Turtle Island

Serangan, known as Turtle Island, sits 500 metres off the coast of Sanur in southern Bali. Its east-facing lagoon catches the dry-season E/SE trade winds and channels them into side-onshore conditions that are about as forgiving as kite spots get. The water is flat and shallow, the wind angle is textbook, and a kite school operates from the beach — which is why this is widely considered Bali's premier beginner kite spot. The island sits just off the Sanur coast, a short hop south. The kite beach runs along the eastern shore. It's a quieter corner of Bali — no strip of bars or tourist nightlife, just a small island community and a beach set up for kiting. The lagoon defines the session. Flat, sheltered water stretches out from the launch, shallow enough to stand in most sections, with room to ride without fighting chop. The wind runs E/SE during the dry season (May–September), typically at 11–16 knots, sitting inside the side-onshore window. June and July are the peak months, with wind on roughly 80% of days. The side-onshore angle means drift tends toward the beach rather than offshore — a meaningful safety margin when you're building skills. For beginners and progressing riders, this combination is hard to beat. Flat water, consistent moderate wind, and onsite instruction make it a natural place to learn. Those chasing big air, waves, or stronger conditions will find the lagoon a little gentle for their tastes — Serangan's strength is precisely its mildness. Given the wind range of 11–16 knots, you'll typically want to be on larger kite sizes compared to more exposed spots on the island. The usable wind window runs from 15° to 145°, capturing the E/SE trades cleanly. Outside the dry season, wind days become less predictable and conditions change character. After the session, the island has a handful of food and drink spots within range. Agus Bar & Restaurant and Warung Mola Mola are the sit-down options for a post-session meal. Blue Warung and Starbucks offer café stops if you want something lighter. Warung Pan Bobby adds another local food option. The vibe is Balinese beach casual — nothing fancy, prices to match. Crowd levels are low. Serangan doesn't draw party tourists or big surf crews, and the kite beach stays manageable even on good wind days.
