About Navene (Malcesine North)

Navene sits on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, roughly 3.5 kilometres north of Malcesine town and about 5 kilometres south of the Trentino border — close enough to the provincial boundary that it feels like the lake is stretching out before the mountains close in for good. The shoreline faces west across the water, and on a clear morning that view is hard to beat: the Baldo massif at your back, open lake ahead, and the first puffs of the Pelér threading down from the north. Getting here means winding north out of Malcesine on the lakeside road. The village of Navene is small — you'll know you've arrived when the road narrows and the water gets close. Parking is limited, so an early arrival helps. What you won't find is a conventional beach launch. The shore is rocky, and for anything other than expert-level open-water pack-down, a boat shuttle is the accepted way in and out. Expect to pay around €35 per day for shuttle access — factor that into your budget before you show up with a quiver. The wind pattern follows Lake Garda's classic thermal cycle. The Pelér, a northerly, typically arrives in the morning and runs side-shore off the west-facing coast. By afternoon the Ora takes over from the south, also side-shore. The usable kite window spans from south through west to north, meaning both thermals sit within the rideable arc. On strong Pelér days the water can get choppy; the Ora tends to build a flatter surface. When Lake Garda turns it on, it turns it on — neither wind is a light-air drift. What this spot demands is honesty about your own level. Deep-water pack-down is not a nice-to-have here, it's a hard requirement. Self-rescue capability is equally non-negotiable. Club membership is mandatory before you ride, and a flotation vest is enforced, not suggested. Experts with the right skill set will find Navene genuinely rewarding: reliable thermal winds, a spectacular alpine lake setting, and a quiet remoteness that keeps the crowds thin. The season runs roughly March through October, following the thermal cycle as the lake warms and the pressure systems establish themselves. Shoulder months can be lighter; midsummer typically delivers the most consistent Ora cycles. On shore, Bar Belvedere covers coffee and a quick bite between sessions. Pizzeria Bavaria is close enough that you won't go hungry after a long afternoon on the water. Neither replaces a kite school or rental operation — if you need instruction or gear hire, sort that in Malcesine before heading north to Navene.
