Miyazaki Beach sits on the Pacific coast of Kyushu's Miyazaki Prefecture, its long, flat stretch of sand facing roughly northeast into open ocean. This is the 'Sun Island' — a stretch of coastline that claims more than 320 sunny days a year, which tells you something useful about the reliability of conditions here rather than just the tourist marketing. Getting to the beach from Miyazaki city is easy. The city is accessible by rail from Fukuoka and Kagoshima, and the beach runs along the eastern edge of the urban area. Access to the sand is open at multiple points, and the beach is wide and flat enough that rigging and launching don't require much planning around crowds or obstacles. The Pacific does produce swell further out — factor that in if you're riding well offshore or planning to push into deeper water. Skill level: the side-onshore angle is forgiving for intermediates and above, but this is open Pacific coast, not a lagoon. Beginners should get their beach skills sorted somewhere more sheltered first. After a session there's no shortage of places to eat nearby. Miyazaki isn't on the global kite circuit the way some Asian spots are, which means more beach for you, less jostling, and a local food scene that's there for its own reasons rather than to service visiting kiters.
