About Aqaba — North Beach

Aqaba's North Beach is a public stretch of sandy coast north of Aqaba city, sitting on Jordan's slice of Red Sea shoreline at the northern end of the Gulf of Aqaba. It lacks the organisation of the resort-managed spots further south, but what it offers in return is genuine space — more room than Tala Bay and an accessible, unpretentious setup that suits kiters who prefer to self-manage. Getting there means following the coastal road north from Aqaba's city centre. The launch area is an open sandy beach with enough room to rig and set up without crowding, which is one of its main advantages over more compact alternatives in the area. As a public beach with mixed use, give yourself a moment to read the space before you rig — foot traffic and how much of the waterfront is in use will shape where you set up best. The wind is the reason to come here. The Gulf of Aqaba runs roughly north to south and acts as a natural funnel — northerly winds channel down its length and arrive at the beach in consistent, reliable form, typically in the 15 to 22 knot range. The usable wind window covers a wide arc from southerly through to northerly, giving you flexibility across varying conditions. The enclosed nature of the gulf keeps swell in check, and the water tends to run flat to moderate rather than heavy and disorganised. The spot is rated intermediate, and that assessment is fair. The funnelled wind is predictable enough for kiters comfortable with self-sufficiency, but the informal setup — no marked kite zones, no on-site supervision, shared beach space — means you need to bring your experience with you. Aqaba Kite Point is the nearest dedicated kite school, though at roughly 15 kilometres away they are not a walk-up option. If you want local knowledge or instruction, reach out before your session rather than planning to find support at the beach itself. Facilities directly at the beach are limited, but the city is close. Al Shatt Restaurant & Terrace and Aqaba Rock Lounge are both within about 1.5 kilometres for food and drinks after a session. Ali Baba, Arabic Moon Restaurant, and Buffalo Wild Wings are also within easy reach. For something lighter, the Bakery shop and Al Qadi Sweets cover snacks and coffee. Aquamarina 3 and the Kempinski Hotel — with its AM PM Restaurant — offer accommodation options close to the beach. Season runs March through October. Spring and early autumn offer the most comfortable riding — wind is consistent and temperatures are manageable. Summer sessions are possible and the wind holds, but the heat is real. An early morning start in July or August earns you cooler conditions and a quieter beach. Overall, North Beach is a solid choice for an intermediate kiter who comes prepared and does not need everything handed to them on arrival.
