About Kintai

Kintai sits on the western shore of the Curonian Lagoon in Lithuania's Šilutė District — a small historic fishing village that has quietly become one of the more consistent flatwater kite spots on the eastern Baltic coast. The lagoon is wide and shallow here, protected from open-water swell, which makes the water surface unusually calm and predictable by coastal standards. The shore faces west (270°), so Lithuania's prevailing westerlies come in side-onshore to onshore — ideal for a safe, powered-up session without a hard offshore component in the mix. The usable wind arc runs from south through to north (180°–0°), meaning N, W, NW, and SW winds all produce workable conditions. The westerlies dominate throughout the season, which gives Kintai genuine consistency rather than a one-or-two-week window. The launch is low-key by design. Kintai is a fishing village, not a developed kite park — expect a sandy beach, a shallow bottom underfoot, and easy wading entry rather than a purpose-built ramp. That simplicity works in your favour: entry and exit are both clean and uncomplicated, which matters whether you're setting up for the first time or packing down after a session. On the water, the flatwater character is the main draw. No swell, no chop carried in from distant weather — just the light wind-driven texture of a calm lagoon responding predictably to the breeze. The shallow, sandy bottom stays forgiving close inshore, so crashes during learning or practising landings don't carry the same penalty as at an ocean beach. Beginners find conditions here well-suited to building fundamentals; experienced riders get a clean platform for speed runs, freestyle, or efficient distance riding. Hazards are modest but worth knowing. As an active lagoon, Kintai has fishing boats and recreational craft sharing the water — especially in summer. Stay aware of other users when riding downwind or far from shore. The shallow bottom that makes the launch forgiving also means keeping speed in check near inshore obstacles. Two kite schools are on hand: Gspot Kiteboarding kaitavimo mokykla and Kite school & rent, both covering instruction and equipment rental. The village punches above its size for food — Kintų Smagurinė, Kintų užkandinė, Karšti Užkandžiai, Kepyklėlė Bäckerei, and Kintu parduotuve, Silutes prekyba all operate locally. For overnights, Ašmonų poilsiavietė, Kintų Perlas, and Kintų poilsiavietė are all within the village.
