Tarfaya sits at Cape Juby on Morocco's Atlantic coast — a small, windswept town near the southern edge of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region. This is one of those rare destinations where the trade wind shows up nearly every day of the year, driven by the Atlantic's persistent NE passaat that has made this stretch of coastline increasingly known among kiters willing to travel for it. Getting here takes commitment. Tarfaya is remote by any measure, and infrastructure is basic — don't expect a kite school on every corner or a gear shop a short drive away. The town sits roughly 20 kilometres north of the Tarfaya Wind Farm corridor, one of Morocco's most significant wind energy projects, which gives you a concrete sense of just how reliable the wind resource is in this region. Come prepared with your own equipment and spares. The beach is west-facing, which sets up a side-shore angle from the NE trade wind — typically the sweet spot for flat to moderate Atlantic chop. Conditions tend to be consistent rather than gusty, which is genuinely useful when you're this far from home and don't want to waste a day waiting on an unreliable forecast. The usable kite window runs from south through north, covering a broad arc as the trade wind tracks through its typical range. In the water, you're dealing with the open Atlantic, so expect ocean swell mixed into the chop depending on the day. This is not a lagoon spot — the water character here is honest open-ocean riding. The side-shore orientation keeps you pushed parallel to the beach rather than out to sea, which is a meaningful safety factor at a remote location like this. Skill-level wise, this spot looks most comfortable for intermediate to advanced riders. The remote setting means self-rescue skills and solid kite control matter more here than at a well-staffed beach. If you're still building confidence, Tarfaya probably isn't the place to push your limits far from support. For food and a coffee after a session, the town offers a handful of options. Café Atlantic, Café Las Dunas, Café Tropicano, and Atlas will sort you for a drink and a bite. Casamar, La Courbine, and Le Délice cover sit-down meals. For accommodation, Canalina Hotel and El Massira are the working options in town — note that Hotel Tarfaya is currently closed. Expect clean but modest rooms; this is a working Moroccan fishing town, not a resort. The year-round trade wind makes Tarfaya viable across seasons. Come with your own gear, a flexible schedule, and patience for the remote logistics, and you'll find one of Morocco's more consistent and genuinely uncrowded Atlantic kite setups.
