About Micro Beach

Micro Beach sits on the western shore of Saipan, the main island of the Northern Mariana Islands in the western Pacific. It's about as close to a textbook flat-water kite setup as you'll find in the Pacific: a broad, sheltered lagoon in front of a white sand beach, water that stays waist-to-chest deep for a long way out, and a sandy bottom so clear you can see your own shadow from the air. The spot faces west, and the dominant trade winds during the dry season — November through April — come in from the northeast and east, wrapping cross-shore across the lagoon. That cross-shore angle keeps the launch clean and gives you room to work without the shoreline sitting on top of you. The shallowness of the lagoon is the real selling point: most of the riding area is wading territory, which takes the edge off for beginners working on their waterstart and gives intermediates a comfortable platform to drill transitions and kite control. More experienced riders will find the flat water fast and predictable — the kind of surface that rewards technique. Wind in the dry season typically runs 15-25 knots off the trades, enough to get you planing on a range of kite sizes. The northeast and east component means the angle stays consistent through the season, though like anywhere in the tropics, individual days vary. Don't skip checking conditions before you rig. Launch from the beach itself. The entry is gradual over clean sand — no reef to navigate at the put-in, no abrupt drop-off. Self-launching works well with the cross-shore wind, but if you're on a bigger kite on a stronger day, a helper on the lines is always the smarter call. The usable kite window runs 200° through to 20°, covering the typical trade direction and leaving room to push upwind comfortably. If you want more than the main lagoon, Managaha Island sits offshore and is reachable by boat. It offers a separate kite area worth building into your trip. Back on shore, the beach strip has solid options for refuelling. Salty's Bar & Grill and Beach House Bar are the natural post-session stops for cold drinks and food. Hard Rock Cafe is close by for something more substantial. OHAS Boulangerie & Café Saipan works well for a pre-session coffee and pastry. Pizza is covered by both American Pizza and Monster Pizza. Bossano Bar, Round Two, and Cafe at the park round out the options for a longer afternoon watching the next session from dry land. Micro Beach is a genuinely easy spot to get right on a first visit: flat water, a predictable cross-shore trade, and a beach with real amenities within reach.
