About Framnes

Framnes sits on the coast of Ostfold in southeastern Norway, tucked into a stretch of shoreline where the wind arc runs clean from south through to north. When the conditions line up — southerly wind building across open water — this place delivers a proper session. Getting here is straightforward by Norwegian coastal standards. The area is accessible without requiring a long off-road detour, and you can get yourself to the water's edge without much faff. The launch area is coastal, working with the natural shoreline rather than against it. The wind arc tells the main story: the usable kite window runs from 180° south all the way to north, which means southerly conditions are your primary trigger. This isn't a thermal-driven spot with a dialled-in daily pattern — Framnes is weather-dependent, like most of coastal Norway. When a southerly builds and the fetch is right, expect conditions to arrive with some commitment. What you won't find here is a predictable light-wind training ground. Water character is coastal — variable chop when the wind is properly up, calmer during lulls. There's no open ocean swell to contend with, but it's not a protected lagoon either. Intermediate riders who handle bump-and-chop will feel at home; advanced riders will find enough to work with. One thing that genuinely sets Framnes apart: there's a kite school operating here under the Framnes name. That means someone local can read the day for you before you rig, gear hire may be on offer, and if you're still building your skills, instruction is available on-site. A school co-located with the spot is rarer than it sounds. The post-session situation is better than average for a coastal Norwegian spot. Alby kafé and Mors café handle the warm drink and quick bite side of things. If you want a full meal, Gimle sushi, Jeløy Sushi, and Tasty grill are all within reach. That's a genuine spread of options, not just a vending machine and a car park. On gear and protection: Norwegian coastal water is cold, and Ostfold is no exception. Summer gives you long days and more manageable temperatures, but a full wetsuit is the baseline, and a drysuit becomes realistic once you move outside the warmer months. Talk to the kite school before your first session — local knowledge about current conditions is worth more than any remote forecast when things here can shift.
