Nevlunghavn is a compact fishing village on the Skagerrak coast, sitting within Larvik municipality in Vestfold. The kind of place built around working boats rather than beach tourism — and that shapes everything about kiting here. The shore faces south-southeast toward the Skagerrak, which means the prevailing Atlantic low-pressure systems tracking in from the southwest deliver cross-onshore wind from the right — a reasonably clean setup when conditions cooperate. The usable wind arc runs from due east through southwest (90°–230°), so there's a fair spread of workable directions, though SW to S is where this spot really comes alive. Approach is straightforward once you're in the village — Nevlunghavn is small enough that you'll find your way quickly. The critical thing to know before you rig: this is a sheltered anchorage first and a kite beach second. Space on the launch is limited, and it can tighten further depending on moored boats and foot traffic. Scout the area before spreading your kite out — a congested quayside isn't where you want to be sorting your lines. On the water, Skagerrak exposure means genuine S and SE swell when the wind has been blowing. On a moderate SW day that chop can be lively rather than technical — punchy for intermediates, tiring if you're still developing your upwind game. Bigger Atlantic systems can push significant swell through, so don't mistake a post-front blue sky for flat water underneath. Skill-level wise, this is comfortably an intermediate-and-above spot. The limited launch, cross-onshore angle, and chop combination asks for solid self-sufficiency. Beginners are better served starting with a lesson at Omrestranda, the kite school in the area, before tackling a session here independently. For base camp, options are solid. On food, Havaristen, Havna Fisk & Skalldyr, and Restaurant Napa are all on the doorstep — fresh seafood at a Norwegian fishing village is rarely a bad call. Come prepared for cold water regardless of the season. The Skagerrak stays chilly, and a good wetsuit is non-negotiable. The shoulder seasons — spring and autumn — typically deliver the most consistent Atlantic-driven wind; summer can bring lighter, more variable conditions.
