Qurum Beach is Muscat's main city beach, sitting on the Gulf of Oman with a northeast-facing shoreline. The city backdrop might not be what you picture when you think of kite destinations, but the setup here is legitimately good: headlands on either side create a sheltered stretch of flat water that's forgiving to ride, and the northeast trade wind blows cross-onshore from October through March. That trade wind — tracking somewhere between 30 and 70 degrees — brings 15 to 22 knots consistently through the cooler months. Cross-onshore means you're not fighting the kite to stay upwind at launch, and the flat water inside the headlands lets you focus on technique rather than survival. It's a city spot, so access is straightforward; you're not hiking down a track or hunting for a gap in the dunes. The heat is the thing you have to plan around. Muscat's daytime temperatures make midday sessions uncomfortable, and the local crowd knows it — evening sessions are the norm here, when the heat drops and the light turns golden over the Gulf. If you're visiting in October or March, the shoulder of the season, you might get away with a morning session, but the middle of the day in peak winter still bites. Water conditions are generally flat inside the headlands, making this a reasonable choice for intermediates building confidence. The cross-onshore wind gives you a safety buffer at launch, so you're not immediately downwind of the beach if something goes wrong. That said, this is still an open coast on the Gulf of Oman, so check conditions before you rig — swell can arrive without much warning. On the facilities side, you're well covered. Accommodation options nearby include the Al Falaj Hotel, Al Raha hotel, Al Wafa Hotel Flats, and Al Walja Hotel. For food and coffee after a session, Al Exandria Restaurant, Chicken Tikka & Seekh Kabab, Awafi Coffeeshop, and several other cafes and coffee shops are close by. It's a functioning city beach, not a kite camp — the infrastructure is there without any effort on your part. The season window is October through March, lining up with Oman's cooler months. If you're in the region for the northern winter, Qurum sits right in the middle of Muscat and is worth building a session around. Don't expect a deserted tropical kite beach — this is an urban spot — but the wind, the flat water, and the easy access make it a practical and reliable option when the trade wind is running.
