About Punta Chame

Punta Chame sits at the tip of a narrow peninsula jutting into Bahía de Chame on Panama's Pacific coast, about 90 minutes west of Panama City. The drive out is straightforward — the peninsula gradually narrows until the bay is visible on both sides, and kites start appearing above the tree line as you close in. It has earned its reputation as the most popular kitesurf destination in Central America, and the conditions make a clear case for that standing. The draw is the lagoon. The bay side of the peninsula offers flat, shallow water that rewards kitesurf technique without punishing mistakes — a genuine asset whether you're running through beginner drills or dialling in unhooked moves as an intermediate. The surface stays manageable across the wind range, and that consistency is what keeps kiters coming back. Wind runs December through April, driven by north to northeast trade winds that typically clock in at 15–25 knots. The usable kite window spans from roughly northwest through north and around to east, giving cross-shore to side-onshore angles depending on your position on the peninsula. Within the season the wind tends to build through the morning and hold into the afternoon — the reliable pattern of Pacific-side trade conditions. Outside that window conditions become unpredictable, so timing your visit matters. The spot is genuinely suitable for all levels. Beginners get flat water, a consistent wind, and room to make mistakes without consequence. Intermediates have the surface and wind range to build their riding without fighting chop. More experienced kiters have open water and enough wind to push harder when the trades are blowing at the top of the range. There's no dramatic sea state here — the lagoon does most of the work in your favour. On the water, be aware that this is a tidal bay and the depth and launch conditions shift across the day. Check the tides before you plan your session. On site, Sole Beach Club runs a restaurant — a solid spot to eat after a session without needing to drive out. For gear, lessons, or accommodation, check what's currently operating locally; the kite scene at a spot this established tends to cluster services around the main launch areas. Panama City is close enough for a day trip, but most kiters base themselves on or near the peninsula to make the most of the December–April window. The 90-minute drive is manageable for a full-day session when the wind is right.
