Pacasmayo sits on Peru's northern Pacific coast in the La Libertad region, a long strip of arid coastline that stretches between desert and sea. El Faro — the lighthouse point — is where this remote fishing town earns its reputation on every serious wave kiter's radar. The claim is straightforward: this is considered home to the world's longest kiteable wave, a left-hand point that can run up to 3 kilometres in the right conditions. The town is genuinely remote — north of Trujillo, well off the main tourist track, and not set up as a kite destination in any commercial sense. That's the deal. You travel here specifically because of what the wave does, and you accept the self-sufficiency that comes with it. The surfer community at Chicama (Puerto Malabrigo), roughly 30 km to the south, shares the same point-break energy and is a natural companion stop if you're exploring the northern Peruvian coast. The usable wind window spans 170° to 330°. From April through October, a southerly sitting around 180° sets in at 12 to 22 knots — a side-to-side offshore angle that does the work of building and sustaining that long wave wall. When the south is pumping, the wave peels consistently and the rides stack up fast. This is an advanced spot, and the rating is earned. The in and out is difficult — expect a challenging launch and landing with an offshore component in play. Strong easterly winds are a known variable and can shift conditions quickly. Come prepared, scout the spot before you rig, and plan your exit strategy before you are committed on the water. Kite sizing tracks the wind range. With 12 to 22 knots as the season window, you will likely want a range of kites — sized toward the lighter end when you want maximum drive and wave time, with something smaller to cover the upper end. A directional or dedicated wave board will extract the most from what El Faro offers; a twin-tip gets you on the water but won't make the most of a 3 km wave. After a session, Pacasmayo has a solid cluster of local restaurants in town: Café Café, Casa Blanca, El Edén, El Chapo Miguel, Marisquería El Eden II, Puerto Escondido, Sabores del Norte, and Combi now. La Crep doubles as a bar and café if you need something lighter. Don't expect a kite school, equipment hire, or packaged session setup — this is a local fishing and surf town, and you will need to arrive with your own kit and knowledge. Pacasmayo is a specialist destination. The logistics ask something of you, and the spot's difficulty asks more. But if a 3-kilometre kite wave ride is what you are chasing, there is nowhere else quite like it.
