About Paracas Bay · The Point

Paracas Bay is a U-shaped bay on Peru's central coast, about 3.5 hours south of Lima by road. The Point is the main kitesurf launch within it — a spot that earns its reputation honestly: reliable south wind, a bay shape that works in the rider's favour, and conditions that suit most skill levels without feeling watered-down. The wind arrives from around 180°, running 25–40 knots on a typical session and showing up roughly 300 days a year. What makes The Point genuinely work is what happens to that wind once it enters the bay: it turns cross-offshore, smoothing out the water and tending to push riders back toward the beach rather than offshore. The shallow, gently shelving nearshore water adds further reassurance for less experienced riders. For the flattest conditions in the bay, work your way to the far side. The riding feels spacious and unhurried. Beginners get an approachable layout — consistent wind direction, manageable depth at the shoreline, and a bay shape that limits the consequences of a mistake. Intermediates find the flat inside water well-suited for freestyle. When the wind is at the upper end of its range, experienced riders have real power to work with. The 25–40-knot average means most days here call for the smaller end of your quiver — this is a strong-wind spot first and foremost. Getting there from Lima is a straightforward coastal drive south — about 3.5 hours. Paracas town is small and quiet; The Point is easy to find once you're on the waterfront. The launch is beach-based, the bay is wide, and rigging feels relaxed. Water temperatures run 16–22°C year-round — cooler than you might expect for this latitude. Pack a wetsuit; on high-wind days with constant spray, you will be glad you did. The reliable season covers most of the year. June and July are the months to avoid, when the consistent south wind typically eases off. Outside that window, the bay delivers. On-site, José Luís Kite School handles lessons and local briefings. Tu Yo en este bar is where most riders land after a session. Paracas town has further food and accommodation options nearby. If you are spending a few days in the area, Laguna Grande — about an hour south — is another flat-water option worth a day trip.
