Siargao earns its reputation through Cloud 9's surf breaks, but Dapa Lagoon sits on the island's northwest flank, near the port town of Dapa, and offers kitesurfers something the surf crowd mostly overlooks: flat, calm water and a usable wind window during the Amihan season. If you're staying in General Luna — the island's main hub — you're roughly 15 minutes away by motorbike or habal-habal. The lagoon faces northwest, around 315°, and its sheltered position is the whole story here. When the Amihan northeast trade wind arrives from roughly November through February, that airflow wraps around Siargao's geography and reaches the lagoon at a side-onshore angle — predictable, manageable, and easier to work with than the open-ocean exposure you'd face at a surf break. The usable wind arc runs from 225° through 45°, which gives you a wide band to work with rather than a narrow slot. Getting there from General Luna means heading north toward Dapa. The port is the landmark — busy with bancas and inter-island ferry traffic — and the lagoon sits nearby. There's no established kite school or rental infrastructure at this spot, so arrive self-sufficient: your gear should be pre-rigged or ready to rig, and have everything you need with you before you leave General Luna. The water itself is the reward. Sheltered from open-ocean swell, the lagoon stays flat and calm, which makes it genuinely approachable for beginners working on water starts, and equally useful for intermediate riders drilling freestyle moves without fighting a messy sea state. It's not a spot built for big air or wave riding — it's a technique spot, and it does that job well. One thing to hold in your head: Dapa is a working port, not a kitesurfing resort. Expect fishing boats, commercial bancas, and everyday harbour activity sharing the water. Before you launch, take a proper look at what's moving and which lanes are active. Keep well clear of vessel traffic — the lagoon's sheltered character is an asset, but the port environment demands attention. For food after your session, Nino Jean Eatery is nearby — a local restaurant that covers the basics without the need to ride all the way back to General Luna. Dapa Lagoon is the quieter, less-photographed alternative on Siargao. If you're a beginner, an intermediate working on fundamentals, or simply someone who wants a flat-water session away from the Cloud 9 crowd, this lagoon is worth the 15-minute ride north during the Amihan months.
