Isla Verde Kite Beach sits on a wide sandy stretch of Caribbean coastline in Carolina, Puerto Rico, just east of the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. It's an urban kite spot in the fullest sense — hotels line the beachfront, restaurants are a short walk away, and getting here is as straightforward as kite access gets on the island. The beach faces north, which puts it squarely in the path of the Northeast trade winds that dominate winter and spring. Those trades typically run 12–20 knots, making this one of the more reliable destinations in Puerto Rico for consistent sessions during that window. Summer brings calmer, more variable conditions — still rideable on the right days, but if consistent power is what you're after, plan your trip for the cooler months. Water character shifts considerably through the year. November through March is wave season — Atlantic swell wraps around and the sea gets lively, sometimes rough. Riders who enjoy mixing wave action into their sessions will find something to work with during this period. Come summer, the water flattens out considerably, giving you cleaner conditions for freeride and freestyle. The usable wind arc here runs wide — from the west-southwest through north to east-southeast — so the classic NE trade wind sits comfortably in the window. When those trades are firing, you're launching with the wind coming off the ocean at a good angle for the beach. Being an urban spot, Isla Verde comes with the tradeoffs you'd expect. The beach sees significant foot traffic — sunbathers, swimmers, tourists — so you need to stay switched on during launch and landing. Pick your entry and exit points carefully and give non-kiters plenty of room. Boat traffic in the nearshore area is worth keeping an eye on too. Skill level: this spot looks best suited to intermediates and above. When the trades are pumping in winter and spring, conditions can get sporty — especially during wave season. Isla Verde is not the wildest or most remote spot on the island, but it delivers consistent winter trade winds, a north-facing beach, and full urban amenities within walking distance.
