Sulina sits at the very tip of Romania — where the Sulina arm of the Danube finally gives way to the Black Sea. It's one of the most remote kitesurf spots you'll find in Europe, and that remoteness is precisely the point. There are no roads in; you arrive by ferry from Tulcea, winding through the channels and reed beds of one of Europe's last great river deltas. The riding area is where river meets sea, and the two work together to give you a naturally sheltered, flat-to-choppy stretch of water. The Danube's outflow keeps the surface unusually tame for a Black Sea spot, so you're not dealing with the short, steep chop that can catch you out elsewhere on this coast. Winds here are predominantly NE to N in character, typically running 12–20 knots through the summer months. The usable kite window covers the northern half of the compass — meaning those NE and N winds send you out into clean, unobstructed air. The season runs June through August. That's when the wind is most consistent and the delta is at its most navigable. Outside those months you're fighting lighter winds and less frequent ferry service. Skill-wise, this is a beginner-to-intermediate spot. The flat-to-chop water is forgiving for riders still working on their upwind game or building confidence in kite control. It's also about as uncrowded as a kitesurf spot gets — you'll often have the water largely to yourself, which matters when you're still figuring out where things can go wrong. A word on logistics: this is a proper expedition. The ferry from Tulcea is the only practical way in, so plan your arrival and departure around the timetable. There's no quick bail-out if conditions deteriorate or something breaks. Build in buffer days for ferries that don't run on schedule or wind windows that shift. On the ground, Sulina is a small town with basic amenities. For something to drink after a session, Cafe Dark and Lanturi are your bar-and-cafe options. For a sit-down meal, Casa Sibiana, Eastland, Hotel Sulina Restaurant, Restaurant si Terasa Coral, and Tip Top all have you covered. It's not a resort, but there's enough to sustain a few days of riding without going hungry. What makes Sulina worth the journey is the combination: uncrowded water, a manageable and consistent wind, and the extraordinary setting of the Danube Delta around you. You're kitesurfing at the edge of one of Europe's most protected wetland ecosystems. If you'd rather be somewhere genuinely remote and interesting than at a crowded kite beach, this spot delivers.
