Shoiaba Lagoon sits roughly 40 minutes south of Jeddah along the Red Sea coast of Makkah Province — a desert lagoon running approximately 2.5 kilometres long and a kilometre wide, sheltered enough to produce some of the flattest water on Saudi Arabia's western coastline. The surrounding arid landscape means there is little to interrupt the wind, and the lagoon's shape funnels N/NW thermals into a reliable cross-onshore flow that fills the basin consistently across most of the year. Getting there is straightforward from Jeddah: head south along the coast road and the lagoon reveals itself as a broad, calm expanse of blue against pale desert. No formal facilities have been documented at the spot, so pack everything you need before you leave the city — water, food, sunscreen, a full repair kit and pump. The kite window runs from 225° to 45°, and the prevailing N/NW direction sits squarely inside that arc, cross-onshore to the north-east section of the lagoon. That angle keeps you tracking parallel to shore rather than dragging you straight out to sea or back onto the beach — a reassuring setup for most skill levels.
