Kasmenica sits in northeastern Slovenia's Prekmurje flatlands — this is freshwater kiteboarding on an inland lake in one of Slovenia's most wind-exposed continental regions. Forget coastal backdrops; here you get open agricultural plain, wide sky, and a water surface that can run flat to choppy depending on how hard the wind is pushing. The pancake-flat terrain of the Mura plain gives winds from the southeast through south to southwest a long unbroken run, which maps exactly to the usable kite window: 113° to 247°. Getting here from Murska Sobota is uncomplicated — the roads across Prekmurje are flat and signposted, and the area around Kasmenica is quiet countryside with reasonable vehicle access to the waterfront. Parking is typically alongside the water. Expect a grassy or earthen launch rather than sand; bring footwear you don't mind getting muddy if conditions are wet. The wind profile is the draw. Southeast and south winds tend to be the most consistent, particularly during summer when the heated Pannonian plains pull air reliably across the lake. Southwest swings can bring gustier, more changeable conditions — worth watching the forecast carefully before committing to a drive. The usable arc is wide at 134 degrees, so there are few offshore concerns within that window, but check what lies downwind before you rig. Water character is inland lake: flat to moderate chop depending on fetch and wind strength, no swell, no tidal movement. That makes it genuinely good for riders building confidence on flat water, and for more experienced kiters who want clean conditions for freestyle or powered freeride without the complications of a coastal environment. Chop can build quickly with strong southerlies — give yourself room to depower safely and don't underestimate how quickly conditions can shift. Prekmurje is one of Slovenia's warmest corners in summer, but afternoon convective storms can build fast, especially from the west and northwest. Watch the sky; if a line of cumulus is stacking, get off the water before it arrives. For facilities, the surrounding area covers the basics well.
