About La Barrosa · Novo Sancti Petri

La Barrosa sits on the Atlantic edge of Novo Sancti Petri, a resort peninsula that reaches south of Chiclana de la Frontera in Cádiz province. The beach is broad and sandy, backed by the hotels and chiringuitos of the resort complex, and faces roughly SSW — which puts it in a genuinely favourable position for the two winds that drive most of the kiting on this stretch of Andalusian coast. The Levante arrives from the E/SE, coming in cross-onshore from your right as you face the water. At La Barrosa, that angle keeps the kite overhead and lets you work the beach rather than drifting downwind into trouble. The Poniente, from the W/SW, also falls inside the usable 135°–285° wind arc and is equally rideable — a more westerly push with a different feel on the water. Both directions deliver genuine cross-onshore conditions, which is a significant part of why this spot has become a natural home for the cluster of surf and kite schools operating in and around the resort area. The bottom is sandy throughout with a gradual entry, which makes self-rescue forgiving and earns La Barrosa its beginner-friendly reputation. That reputation also means the beach can get busy in high season — the resort setting brings swimmers and sunbathers, and a clean launch typically means heading toward the quieter ends of the beach rather than directly in front of the main hotel zone. Take your time on setup, position carefully, and the sandy ground gives you a margin if something goes slightly sideways. For accommodation there are several options within easy reach of the water: Hipotels Barrosa Palace, Hipotels Barrosa Garden, Hipotels Playa la Barrosa, and Amàre Beach Hotel Sancti Petri are all close. Duna Beach Club and Chiringuito Aldiana Andalusien are solid post-session choices right on the beach; Barracuda - Novo Sancti Petri and Cachito Novo are also nearby. For a proper sit-down, Hayaca Restaurante Sancti Petri and El Patio de los Pintxos are both worth a visit. The 135°–285° arc is wide enough to cover both main wind directions comfortably. What it doesn't cover — northerly conditions — means any wind from outside that window changes the picture entirely: La Barrosa stops being a friendly beach and becomes a potential downwinder. Check direction before rigging, not after. For beginners, the sandy bottom, forgiving entry, and proximity to schools make La Barrosa one of the more accessible spots in the Cádiz area. Intermediates have room to work flat-water technique in lighter conditions and to push harder when the Levante fills in. The resort context means you're never far from a cold drink or a hot meal — the Atlantic delivers the wind, the complex delivers the rest.
