The launch area is on the open beach. Being semi-urban, beachgoers are part of the picture on calmer days, so scout your zone before pumping up and keep your downwind run clear. Parking is available at the beach. The usable wind arc covers 315° to 135° — northwest, north, northeast, east, and into the southeast. Northeast is the sweet spot: it hits the beach side-onshore, giving clean and manageable conditions that suit intermediates well. North and northwest also work, though they tend to push more raw Atlantic energy through with them. The bay's flanking cliffs add some shaping to the wind flow, but conditions can still shift mid-session, so stay attentive. West of the harbour is where the Atlantic shows itself most honestly. Swell rolls in with real weight and breaks with purpose — treat this section with respect if surf isn't your usual element. For riders who are comfortable in breaking waves, it's genuinely rewarding: a proper beach-break wave spot with Cantabrian character. If you're still building confidence in surf, work the more sheltered section of the bay while you get a feel for the place. Season runs April through October. Spring and autumn can deliver the more consistent wind days; summer tends to be more stable but draws more people to the beach. Whatever window you choose, build in flexibility — Cantabrian weather moves on its own schedule. Skill level: intermediate and above. Atlantic swell, a semi-urban setting, and shifting conditions all ask for a rider who can read what's in front of them. Post-session, the options are solid. Restaurants Augusto, Bahía, Dulcinea, and Joaquín are in the area for a proper meal. Cafetería El Rey, Carma, Cruci, El Manantial, and El Parque take care of coffees and bar snacks. Cerveceria El arenal is close by if a cold beer is what you're after. The town of San Vicente de la Barquera is right there — a proper Cantabrian coastal town worth an evening wander once you've rinsed the salt off.
