About Falsterbo Strandbad

Falsterbo Strandbad sits at the very southwestern tip of Sweden, where the Öresund meets the Baltic. It's a sandy beach tucked inside the Falsterbo nature reserve in Skåne — one of those spots that genuinely feels like the edge of Scandinavia, with Denmark clearly visible across the water on a clear day. The shoreline faces roughly east, which means the beach comes alive in easterly winds. Getting there: follow signs to Falsterbo Strandbad in the village of Falsterbo. There's a car park right at the Strandbad — that's your base. Being inside a nature reserve means access rules matter here; stick to the designated launch area near the car park and don't trample dune vegetation. The rangers take it seriously, and rightly so — this is protected habitat, and the spot remains accessible because people have respected that. The launch is sandy and relatively flat. Once you're in the water, depth comes quickly. That's helpful for a clean entry, but it means the surface can get genuinely choppy when the wind is up — the fetch across the Öresund builds real, short-period chop even in moderate conditions. Don't expect flat water; this is a freeride playground, not a freestyle pool. The usable wind window runs from roughly northeast through to SSE (20°–160°). Easterly winds are the sweet spot: side-on to the shore, they open up a proper kite window and give you a clean run along the coast. The Baltic and Öresund junction means conditions can shift within a session — wind can build or drop without much warning, and the water surface reflects every gust change almost immediately. For riding character, think open-water freeriding: carving runs, natural chop to pop off, plenty of space. There's no dedicated wave break, so if you're hunting barrels, look elsewhere. Intermediates comfortable with choppy conditions will feel at home here. Beginners should log flat-water hours somewhere else first — the chop and variable gusts make it a less forgiving learning environment. When SW or W winds dominate, Falsterbo's Strandbad loses its angle. In those conditions, the Skanör side of the peninsula has a west-facing beach that can work instead — worth knowing before you make the drive. On the facilities front, the area delivers. Kite Life is an IKO kitesurfing school nearby if you need tuition or want to tap local knowledge before heading out. For food, you've got Nomad Bistro Falsterbo, Bistro Perspektiv, Kust Falsterbo, Alm's, Mike Arvblom Pizza, and the café at Falsterbo Photo Art Museum right at the Strandbad. Staying overnight? Falsterbo Camping and Hotell Gässlingen both cover accommodation. Flommens Golfklubb is close if your travel companion doesn't kite. The non-negotiable: this is a nature reserve. Launch from the designated zone, stay off the dunes, and pack everything out. The spot exists because riders before you respected that deal.
