Saint-Blaise occupies a quiet stretch of the northern shore of Lac de Neuchâtel — Switzerland's largest lake lying entirely within its borders and one of the country's more accessible freshwater kite destinations. The village sits roughly midway along the lake's north bank, with the Jura mountains rising behind you and the wide open water stretching south toward the Alps. Getting here is straightforward by Swiss standards. Saint-Blaise is served by regional rail from Neuchâtel (a short ride), and there is parking available near the waterfront. The launch area runs along a relatively flat shoreline — the kind of setup where you can rig without drama and walk to the water's edge without picking your way through obstacles. The wind window that matters here runs from 180° to 270°, meaning southerly through westerly conditions get you on the water. The dominant direction is SW — a wind that tracks across the lake's long axis and typically builds through the afternoon on good days. Because you're on a mid-lake shore, the fetch is real: when the SW comes in properly, it can generate a short, punchy chop that keeps things honest. Lake chop tends to be steeper and quicker than coastal swell, so expect to be active on the board rather than relaxed. The water is fresh and cold year-round by coastal standards, with depth shelving off gradually from the shore. That gives you a usable shallow zone close in before the lake drops away — worth knowing if something goes wrong.
