Gear-wise, the 15–22 knot range calls for a medium kite for most sessions, but this place is remote enough that packing a spare in a different size is worth every kilogram of extra luggage. Do not assume a kite shop or repair service is nearby — sort all equipment needs before you leave home. The remoteness is the whole point. Vava'u rewards kiters who travel for the experience rather than the convenience — flat protected water, dependable southeast trades, and a South Pacific island setting that asks nothing of you except to turn up and ride.
