The Croft Camping Scheme, administered by the Tiree Community Development Trust's Ranger Service in partnership with NatureScot, provides managed green-field camping pitches distributed across the island of Tiree. Operating successfully for over a decade, this initiative was established to safeguard the island's delicate machair grassland ecosystems and sensitive ground-nesting bird habitats from potential vehicle damage. Visitors stay in designated pitches situated on firm, fenced ground strategically located across working crofts. All sites benefit from access to central facilities at Scarinish including fresh water for vehicle reservoirs and chemical waste disposal services. Upon arrival, the Ranger Service meets guests at the ferry terminal, providing welcome packs and guidance throughout their stay.
