Part of Coyote Point Recreation Area, the spot benefits from solid park infrastructure — parking inside the recreation area, a launch ramp, and enough space to rig without the usual beachfront scramble. The wind driving sessions here is the same NW thermal system that powers spots further up the bay, but Coyote Point is more sheltered than Crissy Field and typically sees cleaner, less punishing conditions while drawing from the same source. When the thermal fires in summer, winds arrive from the northwest — roughly 280° to 330° — and can push through at 20 to 35 knots on the strong days. That is a serious range, and on a proper summer afternoon it delivers long, consistent runs. The water is flat bay water — no ocean swell, no significant chop. This is one of the spot's clearest advantages: you get real wind in a body of water that is genuinely forgiving underfoot. The bay at this point is wide enough to give you riding room without feeling cramped, though like any bay spot, you need to be clear on what is downwind of you before you launch. The launch ramp is the practical centerpiece of the spot. It gives you a clean, defined entry point, which matters when conditions are moving and you do not want to waste time fumbling on uneven ground. Parking is available inside the recreation area. Riders across the skill range can find sessions here when conditions are appropriate. The sheltered position and flat water make it more accessible than some of the Bay's more exposed spots, and intermediate riders can build confidence without constant overwhelm. Summer is the season to target, when the NW thermal is at its most reliable and consistent. Outside that window, conditions become more variable.
