Huguenot Memorial Park sits at the mouth of the St. Johns River where it meets the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of downtown Jacksonville near the Mayport area. It's one of the few spots in Northeast Florida with a designated kite zone — which makes it the default session for the Jacksonville fleet and the obvious starting point for any visiting rider in the region. Access is through the park entrance leading into Mayport. There's a vehicle beach access fee, but the payoff is drive-on beach access: you can pull close to the launch area and rig in the sand without a long gear carry. That matters when a sea breeze is already running and you want to be in the water, not hiking. The spot gives you two distinct setups. The ocean-facing beach runs east toward the Atlantic with a clean sandy shore and room to lay out lines properly — this is where most kiters set up. The river mouth side is more protected, with generally flatter water, which is where beginners tend to work with a school. Be aware the St. Johns is a substantial river and tidal current through the mouth can run hard, especially on the ebb. Check the tidal state before committing to a river-mouth session. Summer wind here is a northeast sea breeze, typically tracking between 50 and 90 degrees and building to 12–18 knots through the afternoon. It's consistent enough to plan around from late spring into early fall. Winter brings cold fronts pushing north and northwest winds — still within the usable 0–180° arc, but stronger and less predictable. The critical point: anything with west in it falls outside the usable arc and puts you on an offshore angle. Treat southwest through northwest as a no-go unless you have a clear exit plan. The ocean side produces Atlantic chop and short-period swell when the northeast is pumping — good for freeride and jumping once you're reading the conditions. Summer weekends get busy with general beach traffic, so scope the kite zone boundaries before you unpack. For staying overnight, Huguenot Campground sits right at the park and is hard to beat for a dawn patrol setup.
