Cariló sits within Pinamar Partido on Argentina's Atlantic coast, roughly 360 kilometres south of Buenos Aires. The town is pine-forested and deliberately low-key — no high-rise towers, just holiday homes tucked between the trees, a few upscale restaurants, and a beach that faces east into the open Atlantic. That east-facing orientation lines up well with the usable wind arc here, which spans NNE through to southerly (10°–180°), making NE and SE winds both workable. The drive down from Buenos Aires is straightforward — follow the coastal highway south. Weekend traffic in the January peak can stretch the journey, so building in extra time is sensible. Once in Cariló, the beach access points sit close to the town centre. The kite season runs from November through March, the Southern Hemisphere summer. NE and SE winds drive most sessions during this window, typically in the 15–25 knot range. The NE sea breeze tends to build through the morning and hold into the afternoon; SE winds can arrive more abruptly when weather systems push up the coast. Waves rarely exceed shoulder height from December through March, which keeps the water manageable for intermediate riders. The beach is broad and sandy with good space to rig. High tide can narrow the usable strip, so it's worth checking the tidal window before you head out. In peak summer — especially January — the beach fills with regular holidaymakers, so pick your launch spot carefully and make sure you have clear space upwind and downwind. Kiteschools and gear rental are based in Pinamar, about 5 kilometres north of Cariló. AV KITESURF is there if you need lessons, a local conditions read, or kit you haven't brought from home. It's worth a stop before your first session to get a sense of what's been blowing. For accommodation, Apart Hotel Cariló Hills, Arami Cariló, Cariló Princess Apart Hotel, Cumeló Cariló, and Baden Baden Carilo are all local options — they book out quickly in January, so plan ahead if you're targeting the prime NE window. The dining scene is good for a small beach town: De Mi Campo Parrilla Restaurant, Chaltén, and Acqua & Farina cover the main meals, and Café Martínez is the obvious choice between sessions. Cariló works well for intermediates and confident beginners who are solid on relaunching in a bit of chop. Advanced riders will find it delivers during a clean NE sea breeze cycle, though this isn't a spot built around technical or extreme riding. It's an Atlantic beach session in a relaxed, upscale setting — and that's the honest draw.
