About Atlantis Kite Beach

Atlantis Kite Beach sits on Bonaire's western coastline, just south of the capital Kralendijk — the island's primary kiting venue and a reliable one. Bonaire accumulates over 300 wind days a year, and this beach is where the local kite scene centres itself. The beach is easy to find along the coastal road, with a sandy launch area that gives you room to rig and lay lines without much hassle. In front of you sits flat, crystal-clear Caribbean water that stays calm on the sheltered west coast. The visibility is exceptional — the kind of water you notice even when you're focused on riding. The driving force is the NE trade wind, consistent at 17–22 knots. On Bonaire's west coast that flow arrives side-offshore to fully offshore — your kite pulls you toward open water, not toward the beach. The result is smooth, flat conditions that have made this spot a draw for freestyle riders and professionals seeking clean water without chop to interrupt their timing. That offshore angle is also the primary hazard. If your kite folds, your lines tangle, or your gear fails, you drift away from shore. There is no shore break to push you back. A safety boat is required — not a recommendation, an actual requirement. Before you launch, confirm that rescue cover is operating. If you're self-organising rather than going through a local school, sort the safety boat before you rig, not after. For riders who have their self-rescue technique dialled, their equipment in reliable shape, and are comfortable managing drift, the conditions deliver. The flat water and steady trade work together in a way that's hard to find in the Caribbean. Freestyle professionals return here specifically for it. Facilities are close. Kas Iguana accommodation is under 70 metres from the beach, Delfins Beach Resort roughly 100 metres, and Brass Boer restaurant within 120 metres — easy for a post-session meal without moving the car. Kite City Bonaire operates about 3.5 kilometres away and can provide lessons, local knowledge, and help arranging safety cover. Bonaire Windsurf Place is further along the coast at around 9 kilometres if you need additional gear support or instruction. Grand Windsock Bonaire and BEACHES Studio Apartments Bonaire sit a couple of kilometres along the coast for additional accommodation. Bonaire's 300-plus wind days and flat west coast conditions make this one of the Caribbean's more consistent kite destinations. Intermediate and advanced riders who are comfortable with offshore conditions and have their safety cover sorted will find very little to complain about.
