Arpoador da Tutóia sits inside the Pequenos Lençóis protected area on Maranhão's far northeastern coast — a remote kite-wave setup that takes real effort to reach. The Pequenos Lençóis is dramatic coastal wilderness: dune fields, open shoreline, and Atlantic horizon beyond the break. Tutóia is the nearest town and your base, but the final leg to the spot is governed entirely by the tide — low water only. The sandbar is the heart of the session. When the tide drops, it surfaces and creates a wide, waist-deep flat-water zone directly behind the break. This is where you rig, launch, and water-start — sheltered, predictable, and manageable even when the outside is working. As the tide floods back in, access closes. The window can be tight, so work out the tide schedule before you leave Tutóia. Arriving on a falling tide gives you the most time on the water. Winds are NE trade-driven and blow side-onshore, sitting within a wide northerly window (270°–90°). During the core season from July through December, expect 18–28 kt on solid days — enough power for most riders without becoming chaotic. The wind direction carries you toward the outside break, where wave riding is the reward for those with the skills to use it. Inside the sandbar, the flat water offers a genuinely useful recovery zone for relaunching and collecting yourself between runs. For intermediates and above who are comfortable with some self-sufficiency, this spot can deliver outstanding sessions. Beginners should look elsewhere — the remote location means no nearby rescue infrastructure, and the tidal access window adds a logistics layer that demands experience to manage safely. Going solo here is not a smart call. Facilities are a few kilometres away in the Tutóia area. The nearest restaurants — Bar Beach, Cabana Beach, and Restaurante Sarapó at Praia da Barra — are around 6–6.5 km from the spot. Carioca kite school is the closest school, roughly 9 km out, and a solid first contact for local tidal intel, conditions knowledge, and gear needs. Bring your own food and water to the launch; there is nothing on site, and a missed tide means a longer wait than you'd want without supplies. This is a spot for riders who want something raw and genuine. The trade-off for the remoteness is an uncrowded session in protected coastal wilderness that most kiters will never find.
