About Cajueiro da Praia

Cajueiro da Praia is a small fishing village on Piauí's coast, sitting north of the better-known Barra Grande. The coastline here is quieter, the vibe decidedly local, and the wind — a reliable NE trade blowing side-onshore — runs hard and consistent from July through January. The beach is long and flat, which opens up the riding in a way that cramped spots simply can't match. You have room to set up, room to body drag in safely, and plenty of real estate for downwind runs. The ground doesn't get technical — flat water close to shore makes it approachable for intermediates, and experienced riders looking for uninterrupted free-riding sessions will find the conditions suit them well. The NE trade comes in at around 18 to 28 knots during peak season, arriving side-onshore across a wide usable kite window running from west through to east (270° to 90°). That direction keeps things honest: you're not getting pushed offshore, and a dropped kite doesn't immediately become a swim to the horizon. That said, the coast north of Barra Grande is exposed, and the trade can push towards the stronger end of that range — check conditions before you launch. Getting there means working your way to the Piauí coast, with Barra Grande as the most recognizable reference point. Cajueiro is a short distance north along the coast from there. Access in this part of Piauí runs mostly on dirt tracks with sandy sections, so a vehicle with decent clearance makes the trip noticeably less stressful. Parking is informal, as you'd expect in a fishing village of this size. On the beach, the launch is straightforward on the long flat stretch. Local fishermen use this beach too, so set up clear of their boats and gear. The flat water near shore reads nicely for riders finding their feet in trade wind conditions, but the open coastline means swell can build when things shift — keep that in mind if the wind starts doing something unexpected. For kite schools, the area is well served: EDS KITE SCHOOL, Kite Escola Paraíso, Barra kite school, and Pousada Kite Wind all operate in the region. Gear rental and lessons are accessible if you're arriving light. Off the water, Caju bistro, Casa Almeida, and Delícias da Mila cover the food options. For a bed, Casa Sirenia, Cashew Tree Island Inn, and Koloa Hotel give you a range from guesthouse to small hotel — this isn't a resort strip, which is exactly the point. July through January is your window. Come during the season and Cajueiro da Praia delivers the kind of uncrowded, consistent trade wind riding that's increasingly hard to find.
