Capão da Canoa sits on Rio Grande do Sul's Atlantic coast, a couple of hours north of Porto Alegre — a proper beach resort town that doubles as one of southern Brazil's better-known kitesurf destinations. The beach faces east, and that orientation is the whole story: winds from the southeast through northeast arrive as side-onshore, giving you a clean launch angle without the sketchy offshore exposure you find at some Brazilian spots. The prevailing window runs from 0° to 180° — north through east to south — with the SE-to-NE quadrant doing most of the work. Expect sessions in the 14–22 knot range: enough to get intermediates properly powered and experienced riders into their preferred zone without needing to swap kites mid-session. The consistency comes from Atlantic exposure — no major land mass blocking the fetch, just open ocean delivering the goods. This isn't flat water. The Atlantic swell pushes through regularly, adding chop and some wave faces depending on swell direction and size. If you like mixing a bit of wave riding into your sessions, Capão da Canoa obliges. The long RS coastline also makes downwind runs genuinely attractive when conditions line up — there's real estate to work with in both directions along the beach. Getting there is easy by Brazilian standards. The town has proper resort infrastructure, so parking near the beach is available, though in high summer it fills up fast and an early start helps. The launch area on the east-facing beach gives enough room to rig and walk out, and with the wind coming from the sea, the sideshore angle makes entries and exits manageable for intermediates who've done their homework. Local kite schools operate here, so if you want a local read before your first session, that option is on the table. The active local kite community means you'll have company on the water — good for a confidence check in unfamiliar conditions, but worth keeping in mind on busy days when swimmers and beachgoers share the same stretch of sand. This is a resort town, and the beach reflects that: give yourself a proper safety buffer downwind. Post-session, the options are decent. À Lenha Pizzaria, Atlanta Grill, and Mais Saladas cover the food side, with Amandia Café Garden and Golden Coffee Cafeteria for a lighter stop. Hotel Dalpiaz, Hotel Kolman, Hotel Rediadri, Capão da Canoa Mar Hotel, and Beach Comercial & Residencial all put you within easy reach of the water. Infrastructure is not an issue here.
