About Torres

Torres sits at the northernmost tip of Rio Grande do Sul, where the Atlantic coastline collides with a dramatic backdrop of basalt cliffs — one of the most visually striking kitesurf settings in southern Brazil. The city is around 100 km north of Porto Alegre, which makes it a realistic weekend drive for riders based in the state capital. The wind here runs on the NE sea breeze and trade wind cycle, delivering side-onshore conditions that typically sit in the 15–25 knot range through the summer season from November through March. The usable kite window spans 25° through 155° — everything from NNE to SSE puts you in business. That side-onshore angle keeps your kite flying over the water and gives you a natural ride back to the beach if the session turns ugly. Beyond the main summer NE window, there are also S and SW wind days that can produce ridable conditions — but these fall outside the primary arc, and they're best left to experienced riders who know the spot and have solid bailout plans before unrolling their lines. The beach itself is an open Atlantic stretch. The basalt cliffs are a compelling visual landmark while you're riding, but they also demand respect: familiarise yourself with your position relative to them before launching, especially on any day with cross-to-onshore angles. Cliffs and kitelines do not mix well. Getting there from Porto Alegre is straightforward — roughly 100 km of coastal driving north. The town is set up for summer tourism, so parking and access near the beachfront are manageable during peak season. On gear, the typical NE trades in the 15–25 knot bracket call for a mid-range setup. A versatile 9–12 m kite handles most of the range you'll encounter on a standard summer session; bring something bigger if you're targeting the lighter end of that window.
