Lagoa de Ibiraquera sits about an hour south of Florianópolis, tucked between the coastal town of Imbituba and the open Atlantic in Santa Catarina. What makes it worth the drive from the city is that you're actually arriving at two distinct spots sharing the same wind: a sheltered, flat-water lagoon and an exposed ocean beach right alongside it. Pick your discipline before you rig up. The lagoon draws the most riders for good reason. It's shallow throughout — somewhere between half a metre and just under two metres deep across most of the riding area — so touchdowns are rarely dramatic, and the flat surface when the NE is blowing gives foilers and freestyle riders the platform they're looking for. There's solid fetch to build speed, and the conditions stay organised in a way that exposed ocean spots simply don't. Intermediates building consistency and advanced riders drilling tricks both find what they need here. Beginners can manage in lighter winds if they have someone keeping an eye on them, though this isn't a dedicated school setup. The ocean beach adjacent to the lagoon is the other half of the equation. The NE arrives side-off on this stretch, which makes for clean, powerful waves and an appealing wave-riding session — but the side-off angle also means your self-rescue needs to be genuinely reliable before you launch there. It's not a forgiving spot if things go sideways, so an honest assessment of your own level matters here more than usual. Wind-wise, NE is the dominant direction, showing up on roughly 70 percent of riding days. The S wind accounts for most of the rest and sits comfortably within the usable kite window too, which gives Ibiraquera a meaningful advantage over spots where only one direction works. Both directions stay within the 25–155-degree usable arc, so when wind is up from either quarter, it's typically ridable. September through December is the prime stretch — conditions are most consistent and both the lagoon and beach tend to be at their best at the same time. Getting here means travelling south from Florianópolis toward Imbituba. The lagoon is well known in the local kite community and easy to find once you're in the area; asking at local accommodation or a shop in town will point you in the right direction.
