Riozinho sits where a small river meets Campeche beach on the southern edge of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. Campeche is one of the more exposed ocean beaches on the island — open Atlantic swell rolls in consistently, and the coastline faces roughly east, which is exactly where the wind comes from. That alignment is what makes this spot work. The name gives it away: riozinho means 'little river' in Portuguese, and the river mouth is both the spot's defining feature and its main variable. The outflow shifts the sandbar, keeps a small section of water moving near the shore, and creates the reference point most riders use for launch. Before you rig, walk down to the waterline and read the outflow — after heavy rain or on a strong tide the current near the mouth can be unpredictable, and the bottom shape changes with it. Wind arrives from the E to NE quadrant and typically runs 12–22 knots, with a usable arc from 0° to 180°. That means anything from north around through east to due south keeps the kite flying — and the classic side-onshore orientation is what makes Campeche genuinely good for wave riding. Side-onshore gives you forward momentum into the wave face with enough angle to work the kite through turns. You're not fighting straight-on wind or burning distance down the beach on every ride.
