About Maragogi

Maragogi sits on Brazil's northeastern coast at the state border between Pernambuco and Alagoas, where the beach faces almost directly east and the Atlantic delivers SE-to-E trades through much of the year. The town is a coastal resort known across Brazil for its galés — natural shallow pools formed by coral reef formations sitting offshore, which at low tide create a broad protected lagoon over white sand. That reef is the reason kiters make the trip. The wind arrives in the SE-to-E range, side-onshore on this east-facing stretch, typically running 14–22 kt. That angle is forgiving at launch — you're not fighting an offshore pull — and gives you a long riding corridor along the coast. The usable kite window runs 0°–180°, covering everything from north through east to south. At low tide the galés do their job: the reef absorbs incoming swell and the water inside flattens into a shallow, turquoise lagoon. That flat-water zone looks solid for intermediates and anyone wanting to work on technique without open-ocean chop. Timing matters here — the flattest conditions cluster around low tide, so checking the table before you rig is worth the minute it takes. As the tide fills, the protected character fades and conditions pick up chop. Launching is a beach launch off the main strip, with the side-onshore wind giving you a clean setup. Get your upwind game sorted before edging toward the reef edge — shallow coral doesn't forgive mistakes, and booties are a sensible addition to your kit. The reef boundary is the hazard to stay spatially aware of throughout your session. Maragogi is not a purpose-built kite hub, so arrive self-sufficient on gear. The waterfront more than covers the rest. Tapioca da Martha handles the quick local snack; Cantinho da Nair and Degutti cover the bar-cafe end for a post-session drink; and for a proper sit-down there's a solid cluster — Restaurante Corais de Maragogi, Kiamoana, Bom Gosto, Dona Elisa, Restaurante Maragaço, Galés Hamburguer na Brasa, and Sensei Parilla Burger — spread along the area. Access comes via the coastal highway connecting Maceió (Alagoas capital) to the south and Recife (Pernambuco capital) to the north. Most riders arrive through one of those cities. For intermediate-and-up kiters who can self-launch and want a quieter reef-lagoon session away from Brazil's bigger kite circuits, Maragogi is worth the planning.
