About Kite School Salamansa

Salamansa sits on the southern coastline of Sao Vicente, one of Cape Verde's most reliably wind-exposed islands in the central Atlantic. The spot occupies a sheltered bay, and its usable kite window sweeps a wide arc from 225° (south-southwest) through west, northwest, and north all the way to 45° (northeast) — a broad coverage that gives you genuine flexibility on days when the wind direction moves around. Getting here from Mindelo, Sao Vicente's main town, is a short coastal drive heading south. The road brings you down to the bay, where the beach curves along a naturally protected stretch of coastline. The walk from parking to the water is manageable, and you won't be hauling kit across difficult terrain. Two kite schools operate directly at the spot — Kite School Salamansa and Kite Club Zoë — making this one of the more organised kitesurf venues on the island. That infrastructure is worth something: local expertise is on hand, rental gear is available, and you can get a proper read on the day's conditions before you rig. First-timers benefit from the instruction, and even experienced riders arriving fresh to the island do well to ask a few questions before heading out. On the water, the bay's geometry keeps conditions more manageable than Sao Vicente's fully exposed coastlines. Expect rideable chop rather than heavy Atlantic swell in most conditions, which makes Salamansa a practical spot for intermediates building confidence in stronger trade wind environments. Thermal influence can build through the afternoon, so the character of the session can shift between morning and late afternoon — something to factor in when planning your day. Cape Verde sits in the path of the Atlantic trade wind system, and Sao Vicente draws from that consistent pressure across a good part of the year. The wide wind arc at Salamansa means you're rarely boxed out by direction alone, though you should always check conditions on the day and be honest about your level before launching. After your session, Jenny bar and café is on site for a cold drink, and La Crêperie Chez Zoë has food if you're making a full day of it. It's a functional set-up that keeps you at the beach. Mindelo, a short drive away, gives you more options for accommodation, restaurants, and ferry connections if you're island-hopping through the archipelago.
